Learning Outcomes and Application This unit involves the skills and knowledge required for efficient journey planning in the transport industry.It includes identifying route and stakeholder information for journey plans, producing operational journey plans, actioning, monitoring and coordinating plan and completing plan records.Work is performed under minimal supervision.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements of Competency Performance Criteria              
Element: Identify route and stakeholder information for journey plan
  • Information on critical aspects of a route are assessed in accordance with relevant regulatory requirements and workplace procedures
       
Element: Information on critical aspects of the route are interpreted and analysed when planning journey in accordance with stakeholder site requirements and workplace procedures
       
Element: Journey plan information is checked for compliance in accordance with relevant regulatory requirements and workplace procedures
       
Element: Fatigue risk management and fit for duty requirements are identified and considered in accordance with regulatory requirements and workplace procedures.
       
Element: Hazardous situations along route are recognised and appropriate action is taken to minimise risk to person/s and equipment in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Sequence, type and timing of required loading and unloading activities are identified and actioned in plan including cost effective backloading and reverse logistics in accordance with business requirements and workplace procedures
       
Element: Contingency management strategies for identified issues/incidents are evaluated for inclusion in plan with references to previous scenarios of similar nature
       
Element: Produce an operational journey plan
  • Transportation requirements for the cargo are identified and applied to match customer specification, freight type and delivery time in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Site unloading and loading methods are considered and communicated to stakeholders for the transfer of cargo between modes of transport as required in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Regulatory requirements, codes of practice and workplace procedures are incorporated in operational journey plan
       
Element: Journey plan is developed and input into relevant management system in accordance with regulatory requirements and workplace procedures
       
Element: Action, monitor and coordinate journey plan
  • Real time monitoring of journey plan is undertaken and outcomes are checked and compared with planned objectives to ensure all delivery service requirements are met in accordance with workplace, contract and regulatory requirements
       
Element: Instructions concerning planned operations are communicated to relevant stakeholders to ensure timely, safe and effective delivery in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Unplanned issues are identified and appropriate action is initiated and reported to relevant stakeholders in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Complete journey plan records
  • Reporting requirements are communicated to appropriate person/s in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Issues and associated variances to the plan are reported, documented and considered for future journey planning in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Workplace documentation and records are completed accurately in relevant journey management system in accordance with workplace procedures
